Footwear Modifications

At Thera-Ped Foot and Ankle Clinic, footwear modifications are changes we make to shoes and boots that will achieve better comfort or alignment not possible with orthotics alone. Footwear modifications maybe external or internal to the shoe. This might include a leg length difference or lift larger than that which can be internally compensated or a wedge to realign the foot and leg in walking. Sometimes we can add a flare to stabilize the shoe to keep it from running over or a rocker sole to relieve pressure on the fore foot or to reduce stress on the ankle. Upper modifications may include Velcro conversions, internal padding and support or adding extra dimension into the upper to accommodate a difference in foot size or position,

Footwear modifications play an important role in Pedorthic therapy at Thera-Ped Foot and Ankle Clinic. They are often overlooked as an option for improved comfort and function. Our technicians at Thera-Ped Foot and Ankle Clinic are highly skilled in making these modifications functional and cosmetically unobtrusive.
